Sparks Chamber of Commerece

Sparks was originally started by the Southern Pacific Railroad company, when they moved rail workers from Wadsworth, NV during the construction of a new switching house. The Southern Pacific Railroad built a switch yard and maintenance sheds, gave workers plots of land and the city was born. The city that sprung up around them was first called Harriman after E. H. Harriman, president of the Southern Pacific. The city was quickly renamed Sparks after John Sparks, the Governor of Nevada in 1904.

Called one of “The Best Places to Start a Small Business” by Newsweek, Sparks has a friendly local government and a business friendly atmosphere. The city has its own modern fire, police and hospital services. This small friendly community is known for community events, live music in the summer, Hot August Nights cruises and more!

As of the census of 2010, there were 80,346 people and 30,601 households residing in the city. A new residential suburb called Spanish Springs was built in a valley just north of Sparks. This friendly suburban area is zoned for 60,000 people and has plenty of retail shopping, light industrial businesses, warehouse facilities and residential communities.
